Tonight, we were reading scriptures while driving home from Mesa. We left fairly late, so I will have to copy the chapter over later. Tonight's chapter was about Adam's geneaology and how they came about a written language. There was a lot of material in the 68 verses. Some of the things Brian and I discussed on the way home were:
How neat it was that all that asked for it were given the ability to speak and write by inspiration.
We discussed the life span of Adam and his family. Most lived for 8-900 years.
We talked about how the population of the people got so big so fast.
We talked about how it states in this chapter that Adam was forgiven for his transgression and that we were not born in sin nor is the sin of a parent carried out to a child.
We discussed the appearnace of Mahijah. He was mentioned in the Pearl of Great Price, but no where else in Biblical history. In the early 1900's, he was found to be mentioned in the book of Enoch. This gave validity to Joseph Smith's teachings as some before thought he was just making everything up.
Since Brian and I were dating, we have made a pretty good effort to read scriptures together. When we were newly weds, it was easy to discuss the scriptures together. Now that we are parents, this isn't always easy. We have recently started reading scriptures as a family as part of our 7 month old daughter's bedtime routine. In an effort to really learn from the scriptures and to disect and digest what we are reading, I'm going to blog about our nightly readings. The actual text from the scriptures (copied from lds.org) is in normal font. My thoughts are italicized after the verses. My thoughts do not and are not intended to represent the views and beliefs of the LDS church. They are simply meant to represent what I have gained from reading the particular passages.
